European and UK Waste Policy

From time to time it has become necessary to interact with Government Departments and State Agencies to highlight difficulties encountered with policy implementation, legislative requirements and enforcement. Sometimes this interaction is made directly by Indaver and other times it is made through our trade association CEWEP (Confederation of European Waste-to-Energy Plants).

The basic objective of all waste policy is to minimize the negative effects of the generation and management of waste on human health and the environment. This includes reducing the use of resources and favouring the practical application of the EU waste hierarchy.

In the long term, the EU aims to become a recycling society that seeks to avoid waste or, if waste must be generated, to use it as a resource.

These goals are practically implemented through various waste directives.
