Recovery of materials to a molecular level

For an increasing number of industrial companies there is currently a focus on closing the materials and energy loop. Due of course to the shortage of primary raw materials. Residual waste streams are increasingly seen as potential raw materials at a molecular level.

As a company that handles around five million tons of waste products every year, Indaver knows how the European waste products market works. And what the valuable recoverable materials are. 

High value cradle-to-cradle

Specialist knowledge is required to process these complex, frequently hazardous waste streams into new raw materials. This requires significant investment. However, greater independence from the (primary) raw materials markets and the proceeds from recovered raw materials, make projects like these worthwhile.

Indaver Molecule Management is setting up 'closed loop' projects with some big industrial clients. The aim is to recover materials from waste streams resulting from industrial processes. When there is sufficient volume Indaver can set up a recycling facility near the production location of an industrial partner. This can create great savings on logistics costs. The recovered materials and energy generated are re-used in the production process of the client or of other nearby companies.

Regeneration of hydrochloric acid

Indaver ARP (Acid Recycling Plant) has been recovering hydrochloric acid from the three pickling lines at Tata Steel for ten years. Hydrochloric acid is used to remove rust after the steel plates have been rolled. Indaver's roaster oven – installed at Tata Steel in IJmuiden – oxidises the contaminated pickling liquid. This creates regenerated hydrochloric acid and iron oxide. Both are 100% suitable for re-use as a raw material in the steel and pigment industry.
