Manufacturers in a circular economy want to re-use raw materials on the condition that they are as good and safe as the original material. We recover high-quality materials from the waste we treat. We protect this materials loop against contamination. Thus we are a link in the circular economy.
In our high-tech facilities, we get as many high-grade materials as possible from the waste we treat. We supplement mechanical recycling methods with new techniques for chemical and thermal recycling, such as Molecule Management. Using these techniques we break materials down to their basic building blocks for new, high-quality products. Indaver invests continuously in innovation to further improve the quality of these materials and works proactively to develop new techniques and facilities for specific waste streams.
Indaver is focused on finding innovative, sustainable solutions for plastics. In our facilities in Willebroek, we sort recyclable plastic packaging and get it ready for use by the recycling industry. We are now also constructing an innovative solution for end-of-life plastics that can no longer be re-used. Indaver therefore wants to build plastics2chemicals (P2C) plants in Europe that break these plastics down into smaller hydrocarbon chains. This thermal, molecular recycling produces raw materials for the chemical industry.
We offer a more sustainable alternative for fossil fuels. During the thermal treatment of non-recyclable waste in our facilities, energy is released, which we make maximum use of. This energy goes to heating networks such as the new industrial steam network ECLUSE in the port of Antwerp or it is converted into electricity. It is therefore supplied to users as steam, heat and electricity.
Protecting the food and materials chain
Consumers and companies rely on the fact that the materials that are continuously re-used, are safe and pure. Undesirable or hazardous substances must be removed from this product chain. We destroy any remaining hazardous elements that must not enter the materials chain. Where there are contaminants that cannot be destroyed, we treat them and/or store them safely. That is our 'Safe Sink' guarantee.
Restricting the environmental impact
We keep the environmental impact of our activities to a minimum. We monitor our own operations closely and we strive to have minimal impact on air, water and soil. We are economical in our use of water and energy in our own processes. We prevent contamination of the soil and groundwater on our own sites. We are always looking for ways to reduce our own use of raw materials and we substitute new materials with recovered materials where possible. We limit our ecological footprint from transporting waste. Our activities meet the strictest environmental standards.
